Can Catholics Take The COVID-19 Vaccine?

Is the new COVID-19 vaccination morally licit for Catholics to take? Some conscientious Catholics have taken issue with the vaccine’s connection to the use of aborted fetal cells. How are Catholics to discern the morality of the vaccine? What does the Catholic Church teach on this specifically? How do we find clarity on this issue when it seems the passions of well-intentioned outspoken public figures have created confusion in imposing burdens beyond what the Church teaches?

I talk in-depth with Fr. Chris Pietraszko on how we can find a definitive answer to the issue of the morality of the vaccine. We reference the recent document released by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. We also dive into understanding the difference between “material cooperation” vs. “formal cooperation” with evil. How do those who take this extreme stance against the vaccine (due to moral reasons) also reconcile their participation in other material cooperation with evil (such as paying taxes and purchasing from other companies whose finances support immoral acts)?

Understand why some Catholics are taking concern with the morality of the vaccine, why that is something to applaud, but also the importance of ensuring we are pursuing this discussion with reason, in the truth of what the Catholic Church has taught on this, and not just pure passion.

Lastly, whether we receive the vaccine or not, we discuss the responsibility of Catholics not only to care for the common good of others but also to voice our concern with the immoral procurement & testing of vaccines tied to aborted fetal cells.
